The annual Chinese New Year Community Celebration, hosted by Hill Street Family Resource Centre in partnership with the North East Inner City Initiative and supported by Dublin City Council, will take place virtually this year from Friday 12th – 26th of February. This FREE family-friendly event will feature a range of wonderful online activities and workshops, created and presented by the families of Hill Street and the HSFRC.
2021’s celebration is the Year of the Ox: a year of career advancement, success in business, prosperity, and wellness for all zodiac signs!
Over the course of the fifteen days, children and families can expect an array of online activities, from food and drama to Tai Chi, calligraphy, storytelling and much more! Open to all, there is something for everyone at this online festival, culminating in a Family Bingo night with games and prizes. Whether you’re a fan of art, culture, food, or history, there will be something for everyone to enjoy at the online Chinese New Year Community Celebration.
Lord Mayor Hazel Chu said, “With the North East Inner City being home to such a diverse range of cultures, Hill Street Family Resource Centre’s Chinese New Year Community Celebration is a great example of how we, as a society, can support the social development, integration, and leadership skills of Chinese families living in the North East Inner City and learn from, embrace and value diversity and create a sense of belonging for all in our community.”
Project Manager for Hill Street Family Resource Centre, Eileen Smith, is delighted to be organising the Chinese New Year Celebration online this year. She said,“Our families have been preparing for this for the past few months, giving their passion and time to ensure that this celebration showcases their Chinese cultural heritage. We were saddened that this year’s event would not take place on Hill Street, but are delighted that it is going ahead as a virtual Celebration.”
Eileen continued, “We believe that it is an important time to celebrate, as well as shine a light on the voluntary work of the local community. This celebration is one example of many as to how our Centre engages with our community. Celebrating its seventh year running, the Chinese New Year Community Celebration really is a fantastic opportunity for all families to come together online to celebrate the rich diversity of people living in the North East Inner City.”
The celebration is led by a group of Chinese parents who live locally, and it has grown organically since it started in 2014. All are welcome to take part in this important festive and cultural celebration. This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate inclusion and diversity as well as join a community online to say goodbye to the Year of the Rat and hello to the Year of the Ox!
The event is funded by the Government under the North East Inner City Initiative as part of its annual programme of community events, and is supported by Dublin City Council. More information can be found on hillstreetfrc.ie.
