The Summerhill Primary Care Centre is one of 14 centres being delivered through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) mechanism. This is the first group of Primary care centres developed in this manner in Ireland. The PPP Company, Healthcare Centres PPP Ltd, comprises of Prime, Balfour Beatty and InfraRed Capital Partners Limited who are responsible for the design and build of the 14 Primary Care Centres. Thereafter the PPP Company will be responsible for providing facilities management services for the 25 year contract period. Summerhill Primary Care Centre is located opposite the existing Summerhill Health Centre site and will become operational in 2019. The building is currently being commissioned and it will provide services to both the local community and the wider North Inner City areas. Two Primary Care Teams will be based in the centre in conjunction with staff providing all Network services for the entire North Inner City Area.

Services available in New Summerhill PCC

  • General Practice Services - Summerhill Family Practice (Dr. Colleen Hopkins and Dr. Brid Shanahan)

  • Public Health Nursing/Community Nursing Service including specialist wound treatment room

  • Primary Care Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech & Language Therapy

  • Psychology

  • Dietetics

  • Primary Care Social Work

  • Dental (4 Surgeries)

  • Community Mental Health Team services including Day Hospital Services

  • Disability – Early Intervention & School Aged Teams for children with disabilities

  • Ambulance Service (located on site in a separate building)

Specialist network children’s services for the Summerhill and the wider North Inner City area will be provided from the centre. These are the early intervention and school aged teams, dental services (4 suites) along with a hub for all other primary care children’s services in the area. In addition, a number of Primary Care Network services will be delivered from the centre as outlined above.

The accommodation in this Primary Care centre is laid out across ground, 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors and is 4351sq m in size and includes 68 basement car parking spaces. The centre has a range of clinical spaces to include interview, group and bookable rooms to deliver a wide range of services. The facilities have been developed to meet the highest infection control, safety and energy standards in a bright and modern environment.

Staffing:

There will be approximately 60 Primary Care staff located in the building, plus a further 30 staff for Mental Health, 10 Dental Staff and 25 Disability staff. The nursing staff currently based in Summerhill will move to new PCC.

The following buildings will be vacated as a result:-

  • North Clarence Street

  • 82 Amiens Street

Existing Summerhill Health Centre will be handed over to Social Inclusion and Addiction Services, who plan to locate a new Health Link Homeless multi-disciplinary team and/or SASSY who provide counselling service to under 18’s.

Bookable Space:

There will be a number of bookable group spaces for the running of Health Promotion Programmes, Breastfeeding support groups, visiting services and parenting classes.

North Inner City Area Network

The North Inner City Network area has a total population of 42,948 served by 3 Primary Care Teams, they are:

  • Summerhill Primary Care Team

  • North City Primary Care Team

  • North Wall Primary Care Team

All staff associated with Summerhill and its surrounding Electoral Divisions will move to the new Summerhill PCC, and staff covering Eastwall and North Dock areas will co-locate in North Strand Health Centre. The D-Doc out of hour’s service will remain in its existing location in North Strand Health Centre.
